GLOBAL WATER SHORTAGE

Imagine turning on the tap and brown soup dripping into your sink. Many people in Europe can't even imagine this scenario, but the global water shortage is a real problem - even in Germany. More than two-thirds of our planet is covered with water, and yet we will increasingly have to contend with drinking water shortages in the future. This is primarily due to the fact that temperatures on earth are rising as a result of climate change. This leads to local dry periods, droughts and extreme weather events, which in many regions result in falling groundwater levels. In addition, what little drinking water we have is being polluted by chemicals from industrial production and agriculture. In addition, more and more trash is ending up in our lakes, rivers and oceans: according to BUND, between eight and twelve million tons of trash end up in the waters every year. By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the sea. The result is an increase in global water shortages and acute water pollution.

quo

This is the current state of the world's water resources:

Worldwide, 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water.
Almost half of the world's population lives in areas that are expected to experience water poverty for at least one month per year. By 2050, that number is expected to reach about 5.7 billion, according to the 2018 World Water Report.
✗ There are 4.2 billion people in the world without access to safe sanitation.

TOGETHER AGAINST WATER SHORTAGE

The protection of water is our mission. In addition to the responsible use of water in everyday life, this also includes the fair distribution of water resources worldwide and adequate educational work to prevent unhygienic living conditions from leading to illness and death. Our GOOD WATER PROJECTS water initiative is based on a UN resolution to which we have adhered since 2014: "The right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation is a human right ."
